LATEST RESEARCH UPDATE, PRACTICAL SKILLS and NETWORKING

Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)

Insight into collagen including relevance to PGP, the pelvic floor, caesarean section and hypermobility.

Bone density and changes during pregnancy and postnatally.

A practical session will be included in the day to allow teachers to refresh on pelvic anatomy and an overview of muscles attaching to the pelvis.

A 'prepare and share' session will enable teachers to bring issues of relevance to them in their teaching for example - supine in pregnancy - how long can you stay for?

An almost unique opportunity for you to network with other like-minded ante and postnatal fitness tutors, teachers. personal trainers, exercise to music teachers and pilates instructors.

More about the tutors:-

Judy DiFiore is one of the UK's leading teachers of Ante/Postnatal exercise. Formerly the Senior Tutor (10 Years) for the YMCA Fitness Industry Training's Anete/Postnatal Teacher Training Module she is now Senior Tutor for The Guild. She is also the author of two ante/postnatal exercise books (The Pregnancy Exercise Book and The Complete Guide to Postnatal Fitness). Judy is a specialist fitness consultant to several pregnancy magazines.

 

Moira Clark has almost 20 years of practical experience working with mothers and babies, of which 8 have been in the fitness industry. Qualified to REPS level 3 with YMCAFit and The Pilates Institute, she now teaches almost exclusively pregnancy and postnatal fitness and Pilates, and works in Kent. Moira has written research based articles for the Midwifery Research Digest MIDIRS, MIMS journal in women's health for health professionals and FitPro.

 

PELVIC FLOOR - LATEST RESEARCH (study day planned for March 2009!)

Highly recommended. This is an opportunity to update your knowledge, with the latest research on pelvic floor muscle exercise. The day aims to cover not only the exercises, but identifying a weak pelvic floor, the types of incontinence and treatments for incontinence. Plus a chance for women to try out biofeedback to ensure correct recruitment of the muscle group.

Samantha Gillard is the study day tutor. She is a Clinical Specialist in Women's & Men's Health Physiotherapy at Heatherwood Hospital Ascot.  Qualified for sixteen  years, she has studied at Bradford and East London Universities to specialize in the field of Women's Health Physiotherapy, with a Graduate Certificate in Continence. By 2009 she will have completed her MSc in Health Care Practice at Oxford Brookes University. She also qualified as a postnatal exercise teacher through the Guild in 2001.

The study day is to be held at Heatherwood Hospital, Physiotherapy Dept, Ascot.

Study day fee will be £70 with an early bird discounted fee of £60 for members who book before 31st January 2009. Non members welcome with a study day fee of £90.
